JJ Kenny Press Release

Another fixed income securities firm benefits from IntegraSoft’s expertise.

The leading Bond Inter-Broker Dealer ("Bond Dealer") on Wall Street had seen many vendors before talking to IntegraSoft. The fixed income IDB’s requirements:
  • Deliver a new front-end to their existing trading infrastructure.
  • Remove the existing infrastructures dependency on proprietary hardware and networking protocols.
Unfortunately, none of the vendors his "Bond Dealer" talked to took into account their current business environment. Most responded with proposals to rebuild their entire system, and with costs that reflected that task.

IntegraSoft’s Approach

IntegraSoft realized early on that the solution for the "Bond Dealer" had to be individualized on an infrastructure component by component basis. IntegraSoft’s approach was based on the principals of encapsulation and simulation.
  1. Choose a middleware product that could simulate the disconnected and broadcast nature of the existing hardware and could easily support encapsulation and other paradigms.
  • ORBIX Talk Messaging Middleware provides a scalable and affordable corporate backbone.
  • ORBIX Web provides client access in an intranet and internet environment.
  1. Encapsulate the inbound and outbound message handling facilities of every component of the legacy system.
  2. The infrastructure needed to scale well to both intranet and internet delivery mediums.
The Architecture

By choosing an open transport layer, and encapsulating all message types and their handling we were able to connect the new client environment to the legacy infrastructure as early as 45 days from project inception.

Because the new infrastructure was based on well defined (IDL-based) message types, we were able to develop functionality on a component by component (and message type by message type) basis. The new infrastructure was linked into the legacy components, thus allowing a phased roll out of the new system along side the old.
    The Front End

The front end is a Java based application. It’s presentation layer was developed with JFC and utilized IntegraSoft’s user interface methodologies. Included are support for printing, and context based navigation.

The business components and analytics were derived both from the existing business structures as well as from IntegraSoft’s suite of business objects (Fixed Income Calc engine, etc). The session layer and message handling facilities were developed based on IntegraSoft’s Java session foundations. It included market data, transactional and non-transactional message handling and dispatch support.

    User Reaction

Training and user acceptance time is always an issue in the trading room. The system was deployed, in beta as early as six months from project inception time and has been used since then. The application was written to emulate the original DOS application’s keyboard behavior. Because of this reason user training time of a community with no previous exposure to windowing environments was quite small.

    Summary

IntegraSoft’s extensive systems integration experience is demonstrated at every IntegraSoft client site. The experience manifests itself in our ability to deliver in situations where no one else can and in our unyielding commitment to our clients.
